Application of Virtual Reality in Forensics
Digital Reconstruction of a Criminal Event
Abstract
This research explores the role of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in forensic crime scene reconstruction. The aim is to investigate how these technologies enhance the accuracy, detail, and efficiency of forensic investigations, providing deeper insights into events that occurred at the crime scene. Through the analysis of literature, case studies, and technical aspects, key ways in which VR and AR are utilized in forensics have been identified. The methodology includes reviewing technical challenges, event simulation capabilities, and the application of digital replicas of crime scenes for investigative purposes. The use of VR and AR in crime scene reconstruction enables more detailed spatial analysis, simulation of various event scenarios, and more effective presentation of evidence in court. Digital replicas of the scene allow for multiple reviews from different angles, while simulations contribute to a better understanding of the sequence of events and potentially uncovering crucial evidence. The application of VR and AR in crime scene reconstruction represents a revolutionary advancement in forensic science. Although there are technical challenges and privacy issues that need to be addressed, these technologies promise to improve the investigation process, the administration of justice, and the more efficient identification of key information. Further development of these technologies and the standardization of their application could significantly enhance forensic investigations and the judicial system.
