Data Journalism

Abstract

Data journalism is a relatively new trend in journalism, thanks to which it is possible to compile huge data content, differentiate it, or combine it into massive statistical data that allows conducting reliable research in various areas of human activity. The creation of mass portals and Internet platforms, gadgets and mobile applications open up wide opportunities for studying all the problems of humanity: from the amount of motor activity of a specific sample of recipients ("Pedometer"), to the mass clogging of the ocean or peacemaking. Accordingly, data journalism is a new trend in journalism, which is actively developing with the growth of computerization and informatization of society at the global level, closely correlating with the formation of popularity and the replenishment of global content in the international Internet web.
The relevance of data journalism lies in the fact that it allows forming an independent objective view of the processes under study with the help of interactive tools, thereby meeting the requirements of a society that tends to believe the numbers, and not the subjective opinion of individual high-ranking figures or media personalities. At the same time, the results of journalistic research are based on video, audio, photo facts, digitized printed materials and documents, which eliminates the need to spend time and material resources on data collection.
