EFFICIENCY OF MODERN OPERATING SYSTEMS

Abstract

The variety of the modern universal and specialized operating systems (OS) from different manufacturers, designed for use in certain subject areas, poses a number of questions: which system to choose for the automated information system, or an automated management system process of crucial objects, how to estimate its efficiency. Herewith are known general requirements for OS, the advantages and disadvantages of various architectural schemes. As regards of their effectiveness except common words and recommendations are offered almost nothing. In this article is formalized the notion of OS functioning efficiency and is considered a set of indicators that can be used to make a decision on the choice of OS, considering the subject area of its use. The attention is drawn to the indicators of effectiveness, which characterize the computer resources cost the OS work. Provides a mathematical formulation of the problem of the OS choice from several variants.
